Although it doesn't happen enough for my liking, every now and then I am able to travel to new places and sample the lifestyle somewhere else. While I haven't gotten to experience anything too exotic recently, I appreciate any opportunity to experience something just a little bit different and to come back just a little bit changed--generally for the better! Any place out of town seems to offer enough of a difference from my own home to appreciate.
While it's always exciting to go to a big city, I find that regardless of its size and pedigree, any town or city along the way has its own unique sensibility that makes you stop and reflect on where you came from. I truly believe that regardless of where you go or how you choose to travel, a trip away from home just does a body, mind, and soul good.
In addition to meeting interesting people, seeing the various attractions, experiencing a place's culture, shopping a little (okay -- a lot), and enjoying some good eats, one of the things I enjoy the most about travelling is taking pictures. These pictures then become the tangible evidence of all the characters, events, and beauty that I have sampled along the way, and the visual diary of those things that have helped to shape my creative sense of self as the months and years go by. It is my pleasure to share a few of these pictures with you on this page.
I sincerely hope you enjoy these simple photo chronicles, and that they can perhaps offer you a respite from your own busy day... if you can't travel far from your own little patch of ground at the moment, a little mental armchair traveling will do you just fine!
On one recent trip, I went to San Diego...
Antique and Vintage Shopping in Ocean Beach CA
I found some beautiful displays
at the shops in Ocean Beach CA.
The shop owners were gracious enough to let me photograph their wares.
Some people just have a gift for creating unique environments.
I really like the way the chairs are hung up on the wall.
Yep, Sweet 'n Charming
Valentine's Day Display
Looks like a vintage Moonie wedding parade!
Why do I love rust? Turns out I'm not the only one.
There is a whole group devoted to rust and blue on Flickr!
One could sit in the Rusty Chair and
look at the rusty birdhouses while enjoying a nice cool one, No?
Fun red vintage kitchenware
If you don't like to see red, try a little blue instead.
(Doesn't that sound like a good start to a country song?)
This visual shopping spree ended with a lovely azure sky, lanky palm trees and gentle lights.
(And a decaf cappucino at the bakery down the street.)
Friends, if you have any interesting historical information to share about some of the places or things you see on these pages or have any comments, please feel free to share them with me - I would love to hear from you!
